# Open source — Uzair Hussain

## Upstream contribution (Vercel Labs)

In January 2026 Uzair migrated the DistrictZero front-end from Create React App to Next.js. Vercel leadership invited a jump-off; he then pair-programmed with Chief Product Officer Tom Occhino: ran the cra-to-next-migration skill, worked error-by-error through legacy libraries, DNS, and Next.js env vars, and shipped the front-end to production.

Outcome for the commons: **12 new rules** from that DistrictZero migration landed in [`vercel-labs/migration-skills`](https://github.com/vercel-labs/migration-skills) ([commit a9bdb17](https://github.com/vercel-labs/migration-skills/commit/a9bdb175792cbb7cf816732790e8020d3c8e2370); rule count 136 → 148). The commit message credits the DistrictZero migration guide. Gotchas include auth race conditions, auth-state gating, provider hierarchy, protected routes, Turbopack transpilePackages, and CSS/hydration pitfalls.

He did not author that git commit (committer: Tom Occhino). The contribution is the field migration and the rules extracted from it. Next planned step at the time was front-end v2 and backend migration.
